MARSHALL, Texas - Coming out aggressively on offense, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team exploded for 12 runs in a run-ruled, seven-inning 12-1 win over Southwestern University to take the series. ETBU is now 19-9 overall and 9-4 playing in-region opponents outside the American Southwest Conference.
Â
Three Tiger players had two hits on the day as
Landen Barns led the way with three RBI and a homer while
Zach Gartner (two RBI) and
Brady Faulkner also came up big.
Casey Combs (HR) and
Ford Spigener would collect two RBI while starting pitcher
Adrian Stover went all seven innings allowing one run on two hits with one strikeout. Brendan Ludwig would take the loss with 1.1 innings allowing three runs on one hit with two strikeouts.
Â
Scoreless after one, ETBU would get on the board first with eight runs in the bottom of the second inning. It was two bases loaded walks plus two SU errors, and RBI hits from Mikeska and Faulkner plus a sacrifice fly by Barns that made it 8-0. SU did get on the board with a homer to right in the fourth inning.
Â
It stayed that way until the fifth inning when Spigener would hit into a groundout that scored Faulkner from third. ETBU then added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as both Combs and Barns would homer to extend the margin to 12-1. Stover then sealed the win with a perfect seventh and ETBU won the series.

With only three home games left in their eleven-game home stand, the Tigers will host LeTourneau University next weekend. The series starts on Friday night at 7:00 PM.
