BROWNWOOD, Texas – Playing just one game on Friday afternoon, #6 East Texas Baptist University continued their defensive dominance with their seventh shutout of the season, 4-0, over Howard Payne University.
Beatriz Lara improved to 10-0 on the year and now hasn't allowed a run in 37 innings.
Both
Hannah Garcia and
Corley Carpenter led ETBU with two hits apiece as Carpenter posted two RBI. Lara recorded the other RBI on a sacrifice fly. She then recorded the win going seven innings, striking out 11 batters, and allowing just three hits. Campos took the loss for HPU.
After a scoreless first inning, ETBU put two runs on the board in the second inning. Carpenter picked up her first RBI with a single to center field as
Daniella Solis came in to score.
Morgan Arst was the second run when she touched home plate on a steal. Carpenter made it 3-0 in the fourth inning with another single to center field as Arst scored again for the 3-0 lead. The final run of the game came in the seventh inning on Lara's sacrifice fly as Garcia trotted home.
ETBU will look to continue their winning streak with a double header on Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m. in Brownwood.
