MARSHALL, Texas – Hot bats and stellar pitching gave the East Texas Baptist University baseball team a 14-2 win over the University of Texas Dallas to complete the series victory. Heading into spring break, the Tigers are 10-7 overall and 3-3 in American Southwest Conference play.
Brady Faulkner led ETBU with eight RBI on the day with two home runs.
ETBU pounded out 19 hits as
Landen Barns (two RBI) and Faulkner (eight RBI) each led the team with four hits each.
Seth Mikeska also tallied to the hit barrage with three hits. Starting pitcher
Alan Underwood earned his first win of the season with six innings of shutout ball in which he allowed five hits while striking out two. Thomas Craig and Ryan Burciaga were the only Comets with two hits while pitcher Orion Drymond suffered the loss with 10 runs on nine hits.
Like the previous two games in the series, ETBU struck first in the first inning as Barns would deliver a two-run single. Following that was a first-pitch three-run homer from Faulkner and an RBI single from Spigener to make it 6-0 after one inning. ETBU's offense continued in the second inning with three runs as Faulkner had a fielder's choice RBI while a balk added one run and Large and McAdams RBI's pushed their lead to 10-0.
Underwood would hold UTD scoreless through six innings, which included getting out of a two-runners on base scenario in the top of the sixth while Faulkner added his fifth RBI with a single in the bottom of the sixth. The Comets would scratch across two runs in the top of the seventh to bring the lead down to nine at 11-2. The Tigers would end the contest in the eighth inning as Faulkner walked it off with his second homer of the game to see the final at 14-2.
Next up for ETBU is a series out in Abilene, Texas, against the Cowboys of Hardin-Simmons University. The first game starts Friday at 7:00 PM.
