ABILENE, Texas – Continuing to stay undefeated in American Southwest Conference play, the #2 East Texas Baptist University softball team swept the doubleheader against Hardin-Simmons University, 8-0 (5.0 innings) and 2-1. ETBU is now 32-1 overall and 23-0 in ASC play.

In game one, the Tigers would only need 5.0 innings to defeat the Cowgirls, 8-0. Corley Carpenter (RBI), Emily Deramus (two RBI), and Daniella Solis (RBI), had two-hit performances in the win.

Game two saw ETBU's defense help out freshman pitcher Preslye Cox who did not allow a hit until the sixth inning. Senior third baseman Mackenzie Anderson picked up both RBI on a two run homerun in the first inning. Kaitlin Hunter picked up two hits in the win.

Game 1 – ETBU 8, HSU 0.
ETBU would strike first in the top of the second inning when Daniella Solis homered over the left field fence. ETBU would get two more runs across in the fourth inning as Solis got in a rundown between first and second base, which resulted in Corley Carpenter scoring from third base. Solis was able to make it to second earning a stolen base. Emily Deramus picked up a RBI double to left center, scoring Solis for the 3-0 lead.

The Tigers would then have a big fifth inning scoring five runs. Hannah Garcia was able to find her way home after a throwing error from HSU that allowed Mariah Delgado to reach base safely. Anderson doubled to right center field, driving in Delgado. A Carpenter single allowed Anderson to come around and score. Deramus picked up her second RBI of the game on a triple to right field that would score Carpenter. The final Tiger run would come on a Sabrina Salts single to right field scoring Deramus.

In the circle, Beatriz Lara would have no trouble with the Cowgirls lineup as she pitched the complete game shutout. Lara would allow just four hits and strike out seven batters in the game.

Game 2 – ETBU 2, HSU 1.
Two runs proved to be all the Tigers would need in game two as they picked up the 2-1 victory. ETBU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Anderson hit a two-run homerun over the left field wall, scoring Delgado who was hit by a pitch in the leadoff spot. Cox had a strong game in the circle pitching the full 7.0 innings, allowing just two hits, one run, and striking out six.
