LONGVIEW, Texas – Competing in the first round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, the East Texas Baptist University men's tennis team fell 5-1 to the West Division #3 seed Hardin-Simmons University. The Tigers end their season 7-9 overall.
ETBU had two tough matches in doubles that determined the match at #2 and #3 doubles. They were close battles as
Joseph Salinas/
Ty Tarver (#2 doubles) fell, 9-7, while
Andrew Deutsch/
Tyler Howard (#3 doubles) then lost a heartbreaker in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (7-1).
John Herr and
Adam Morris lost, 8-4, at #1 doubles
ETBU would record one point in singles play as Herr came away with a 6-3, 6-3 win at #2 singles. ETBU would have a set win at number five singles from Tarver, who was leading the second set while Howard rallied to tie the second set at five apiece. But before they could continue the momentum, the Cowboys would get the two points needed to win the match with wins at #1 and #3 singles.
ETBU loses just two seniors in
Ty Tarver and
Reid Adams. This is the fourth straight year to qualify for the ASC Tournament after starting the program in 2012.
