MARSHALL, Texas – Ending their season in the NCAA Division III Marshall, Texas Regional Tournament, the #2 East Texas Baptist University softball team fell, 6-1, to #8 Texas Lutheran University. ETBU finishes their season at 39-6 and were the American Southwest Conference regular season and tournament champions.

Madison Prince drove in the only RBI.
Beatriz Lara received the loss surrendering four runs on two hits in 1.2 innings. Skyler Ouellete was the top batter for the Bulldogs with three hits and two RBI while DeAnna Hernandez, Casey Martin, Kali Chatham, and Cassie Roche each had two hits. Kayla Oliveira earned the win going five innings allowing just five hits with four strikeouts.
The Bulldogs capitalized early in the top of the first with two leadoff walks by driving both of them in with on a single. Then in the second, the Bulldogs would create a two-out rally that led to two more runs and a 4-0 lead. ETBU would have an early scoring chance in the bottom of the first inning as they put two runners on base, however, a fly out to center ended the threat.
ETBU loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning before the Bulldogs recorded a strikeout to keep the Tigers off the board. A leadoff double in the bottom of the fifth for ETBU ended with the runner stranded at third. TLU would extend their lead to 6-0 with a run in the fifth and sixth innings. In the bottom of the sixth inning, ETBU recorded their only run with a RBI double from Prince. In the seventh inning, the Tigers loaded the bases once again before the Bulldogs secured the win on a fly out to left.
ETBU loses just two players from the 2019 team that won 39 games and was ranked in the top 5 for most of the season. This was the seventh straight year that ETBU made the NCAA Tournament as they also won their ninth ASC Tournament Championship.
