#TIGERSWIN | @ETBU_Softball Slides into ASC Championship Game with Victory Over UMHB

MARSHALL, Texas – Ending the second day of the American Southwest Conference Softball Championship Tournament in thrilling fashion, the #3 East Texas Baptist University softball team earned a spot in the championship game with a walk-off fielder's choice as Mariah Delgado was the winning run in the 2-1 victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. ETBU improves to 38-4 overall and UMHB is now 27-15. ETBU will now be playing in their 12th ASC Championship game winning eight championships to date.

Delgado scored all of the Tigers' runs, while tallying two hits in three appearances at the plate. Kaitlin Hunter chipped in two hits and Corley Carpenter and Daniela Solis each added a hit and a RBI. Preslye Cox picked up the win in the circle, striking out seven batters improving to 14-2 on the year.

As a team, ETBU doubled up UMHB in total hits, recording eight to the Cru's four. Allie Dalle, Kourtney Cummings, Hannah Wolfe and Alexis Galvan each record a hit for UMHB. Baleigh Grogan (8-6) suffered the loss for the Cru, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing five hits and two runs.

It was a defensive battle from the first pitch, as both teams used great fielding and stingy work in the circle to keep the game scoreless in the first three innings. The bottom of the third would see Carpenter send a single up the middle that would advance Solis and bring home Delgado pushing the score to 1-0 in  favor of the Tigers.

ETBU would cling to the single run lead until the top of the seventh inning. Cummings would lead off with a double and then stole third, leading to Galvan heading to the plate with two outs. Galvan then singled out to left field, bringing home Cummings and tying the ballgame at 1-1.

Delgado would bring life to the Tigers' effort, doubling out to left center and advancing to second base in the bottom of the seventh inning. A sac bunt by Mackenzie Anderson moved Delgado to third and closer to scoring position on the ensuing play. A single out to second base by Solis scored Delgado and sealed the 2-1 victory over the Cru on day two of the ASC Softball Championship Tournament.

ETBU will host the winner of UMHB and Hardin Simmons University on Saturday, May 4th at 2:00 p.m.
