ABILENE, Texas – Competing in their first tournament of the 2019-20 season, the East Texas Baptist University men's tennis put together a good showing at the fall American Southwest Conference tournament in Abilene, Texas. Two players finished in third place.
Singles play saw
John Herr and
Dalton Barron finish in third place. Herr (Flight B) would defeat both Desmon O'Shea (Hardin-Simmons University) and Race Haas (St. Thomas-TX) while Barron (Flight H) earned wins against McMurry opponents Jason Cabe and Chris Causer (McM).
Tyler Howard,
Tyrese Sheffield, Matt Fuhr, and
Braden Petru would finish seventh in their flights while
Adam Morris reached the consolation championship in Flight F.
In Doubles, Howard and
Andrew Deutsch would reach the championship match in Flight B with wins over Cole Weiss/Keaton Brown (UMHB) and Haas/Hopkins (ST-TX) while Herr and
Joseph Salinas would take the Flight A consolation title over Luis Cabreja/Austin Cervantes (Schreiner).
ETBU will next compete at the ITA Fall Tournament in Georgetown, Texas two weeks from Thursday.
