MARSHALL, Texas – Coming down to the final match of the night, the East Texas Baptist University men's tennis team pulled out the win, 5-4, over McMurry University for their first win of the year. ETBU led 2-1 after doubles and then held onto the win.
 
After falling in doubles match number one, 8-7 (7-4), ETBU's Andrew Deutsch and Tyler Howard came away with the 8-7 win in doubles two over Zach Miller and Brynson Harmon. Deutsch and Howard took the tie breaking set, 7-2, to tie the match at one point each. Dalton Barron and Noah Smistad then won doubles three match, 8-5, over Trey Fambrough and Chris Causer.
 
John Herr put ETBU up, 3-1, after his 6-1, 6-2, win at #2 singles over Chase Daniell. McM's Reid Smith cut the lead then to one, 3-2, in a 5-7, 6-0, 6-4, win against Howard. Deutsch put ETBU one point closer to winning the match in #3 singles for 4-2 advantage in a 6-2, 6-4 win over Miller. McM then bounced back with a three-set win at #1 singles, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, as Joseph Salinas dropped the match to Carlos Martinez. Joseph Diaz tied the match at four points each as he took a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Adam Morris at #5 singles. Barron then shut out Causer, 6-0, 6-0, for the fifth and deciding point.
 
ETBU will host Texas Lutheran University at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Tennis Complex.
