#TIGERSWIN | @ETBU_WBSK Puts Forth Strong Second Half in Win Over McMurry


ABILENE, Texas - Putting together a dominant third quarter after trailing in the first half, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team would rally from six down for a 75-66 victory over the War Hawks of McMurry University. ETBU exits the weekend at 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the American Southwest Conference East Division.   

Amanda Wilson finished as the top scorer with 25 points while grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double. Kendrick Clark and Kim Childress (four assists) each scored double figures with 18 and 15 points respectively. Taylor Singleton would share the assist lead with four of her own.  

ETBU finished shooting 49.2% from the field despite making only two three-pointers. They would take control of the rebounding game 43-37 and dished out 18 assists to the War Hawks 16. ETBU dominated the paint 56-16 and had 17 fast break points to five by McM.

After ETBU's first basket of the game on a Clark three, the War Hawks would take control scoring 11 of the next 13 points for an 11-5 lead (6:45). Taylor Singleton (4:24) and Tatyana Lacey (3:00) brought the game to 13-8 before Clark would make a two-point layup (1:39). ETBU would manage to cut the first quarter score to 15-12 after Childress made a pair of free throws.  

Wilson (9:50) would get the score to 15-14 with an opening jumper to start the second quarter. McM managed to create a 7-2 run (8:15-6:37) to lead 22-16 right after ETBU was within one. The Tigers would answer with an 8-1 run (6:02-3:36) to cut the deficit to 25-24. Despite outshooting McM in the first half with 48% from the field, the Tigers couldn't stop a final War Hawks surge as the halftime score was 36-30 in favor of McM.

ETBU finally turned the corner to start the third quarter with an 11-2 run (10:00-6:29). This stretch would see Wilson go off for seven points as ETBU grabbed a 41-38 lead. While McM knotted the ballgame at 41, the Tigers ran up nine straight points for a 50-41 lead as Grace Stephens (5:58, 5:27) and Clark (5:44, 5:07) combined for eight points. ETBU then extended their lead up to 57-45 with Wilson knocking down her ninth point of the quarter (1:38) before the War Hawks finished with a 5-2 run to trail 59-50.  

McM threatened in the fourth quarter cutting the game to 59-54 only for Wilson to spring up four unanswered points (8:14-7:12). ETBU kept giving Wilson the ball and she would come through with 12 fourth quarter points to finish with 25 points. The closest McM would get was 67-63 with 4:09 left to play. Wilson and the Tigers would come up with the big shots to close the book on their 75-66 victory.  



ETBU returns home for their next ASC game against the University of Texas Dallas at 5:30 PM on Thursday.
