#TIGERSWIN | Second Half Surge Sends @ETBU_WBSK to 3-0

ABILENE, Texas - Up by six points at the end of the first half, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team put on a scoring spree in the second half running away with the game over Sul Ross State University, 83-59. ETBU is now 3-0.  

Three Tigers scored in double-figures as Bridget Upton led the way with 13 points. Taylor Singleton posted 12 points while 11 points came from Hanna Hudson. Haley Fieseler added nine points and a team high eight rebounds. SRSU Cassie Hogan led all scorers with 15 points while Keona Loftis had 13 points followed by Teresa Quintana (12 points), and Alexis Carmosino (11 points).

In total, ETBU outshot SRSU from the field (47.3%-32.1%), three-point range (47.8%-40.7%) and free-throws (69.0%-57.1%). While both teams finished with 38 boards, ETBU managed 32 on the defensive side. They also would finish with 22 fast break points and 27 points off turnovers.

The first quarter saw both teams shoot over 50% from the field as they combined for 48 points as ETBU grabbed a 25-23 lead. The Lobos would stake a five-point lead at 19-14 (4:30) early in the first only for ETBU to finish the quarter on a 11-4 run. ETBU would be ignited by Upton, who posted eight points (2:25, 0:54, 0:40), propelling ETBU to go up by two points.

Following a quick score from SRSU to tie up the game, ETBU scored 13 of the next 18 points (8:26-1:17) for a 38-30 lead. Hudson would pick up five points (8:14-7:39) in the stretch while Singleton added four points (8:26, 3:52) in that run. SRSU cut the lead to five, 38-33, before Singleton converted a free throw to send the Tigers into the half with a six-point lead, 39-33.

A fast paced third quarter for ETBU began on a 13-4 run (9:40-5:35) to improve their lead to 15, 52-37. The Tigers would make 46.2% from the field in this quarter while their defense held the Lobos to 25.0%. In total, ETBU increased their lead to 17, 57-40, with 46 seconds in the quarter before the Lobos connected on a three to pull within 14, 57-43.

ETBU ended up scoring 26 points in the final quarter with contributions from their bench. Among those who stepped up was Paige Royal, who would led ETBU with nine points in the quarter (6:45, 4:21, 0:23) grabbing their first 20-point lead (65-44; 6:45). In total, the Tigers held SRSU to 16 points for the24-point win, 83-59.

ETBU's next contest will be in a two weeks as they will travel to Brownwood, Texas, to meet Howard Payne on December 17th at 5:30 PM.
