MARSHALL, Texas – Hosting their third home match of the season, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team defeated the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 8-1, in a Friday afternoon American Southwest Conference crossover contest. After the win, ETBU is 3-1 overall.
The Tigers opened the day with a 3-0 sweep in doubles play. The #1 team of
Elisa Kendall and Ashley Shenck delivered an 8-2 win against UMHB's team of Alondra Torres Diaz. The #2 doubles team of
Cassidy Wilcoxson and
Maddi Davis took down the Cru's Nathalie Galligan and Amanda Almanza, 8-3.
Kelsey Roberts and
Kylee Mixon rounded out the sweep at the #3 spot, winning 8-5, against Reilly Fletcher and Macie Dennison.
The Tigers nearly swept the singles' play, with Kendall collecting a 6-0, 6-0, victory over Vicky Rendon. Wilcoxson (6-0, 7-6),
Kelsey Roberts (6-1, 6-2), Corinne Hall (6-0, 6-1) and
Syvoney Ybarra (6-0, 6-0) each collected wins to closeout Friday's meeting with the Cru.
ETBU will have two weeks off before returning to the court for a matchup with Howard Payne University on Friday, February 28
th. The match is set to start at 4:00 p.m. from Veterans Memorial Tennis Complex.
