RICHARDSON, Texas – A cold shooting night by the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team led to a 67-50 loss to the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in the American Southwest Conference semi-final game. ETBU ends their season at 20-7 which is the third straight 20-win season.
Amanda Wilson ended her career for ETBU with a double-double scoring a team high 18 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.
Kim Childress added nine points while
Taylor Singleton recorded three assists.
Hannah Holt led UMHB with 27 points while Kendall Rollins had 11 rebounds.
ETBU would make only 35.7% from the field while UMHB tallied 39.0%. ETBU would dominate the paint outscoring UMHB, 30-20, and finishing with an 11-7 edge in the bench. ETBU also shot just 14% from behind the arc only making two three-pointers.
Grabbing the lead early scoring eight of the first 11 points, ETBU looked in control until UMHB followed with eight unanswered points (5:34-3:57) for an 11-8 lead. ETBU would knot the game at 11 on a pair of
Mallory Stephens free throws (2:11), but UMHB took command of the quarter scoring seven of the last eight points to lead 18-12 after the first quarter.
Wilson would get ETBU back to within four points at 21-17 (6:25) with five points to begin the second quarter. UMHB then pulled away with a 12-2 run to lead 33-19 (2:56). Clark would get a basket to pull the Tigers within ten points at 33-23. ETBU then pulled within single digits as
Missie Kilo scored a half-court buzzer-beater shot pulling within eight, 35-27, at the break.
ETBU would only get as close as eight, 38-30, on a three by Childress (7:37) just over two minutes into the third quarter. ETBU would finish with just seven points in total in the third quarter while UMHB scored 12 to lead 47-34 after three.
UMHB grew their lead to 18 points (54-36; 8:17) at the start of the fourth quarter. ETBU would rally together for a strong 10-2 run (7:13-4:28) to trail, 56-46, but that was as close as they would get. UMHB ended the game on an 11-4 run to win 67-50.
Six seniors leave ETBU that have left a strong foundation for the future. ETBU has produced three 20-win seasons and won the 2018 ASC championship which was the first-ever for the program.
