Slow Start Downs @ETBU_Baseball in Shreveport

MARSHALL, Texas - Continuing their home and away series with Centenary College, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team's comeback came up short in the double header on Saturday. ETBU fell in game one, 7-0, and 12-5 in game two and is now 0-3 on the year.
 
Game one saw ETBU trail 1-0 before CC pulled away to win 7-0 in the seven inning game. Alan Underwood took the loss going 4.1 innings allowing four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. Offensively, ETBU mustered two hits from Connor Martin and Ford Spigener as CC's Matthew Devilier struck out four batters to earn the win. Alek Arellano (0.2 IP, one strikeout), Sayer Collins (0.2), and Clifton Gustafason (0.1) all put time in on the mound.
 
In game two, CC's bats would put up 12 runs and had the lead from the beginning. In three innings of work, Adrian Stover took the loss allowing seven runs on five hits. Blake Corbin, Austin Schaper, Peter Delkus, Julian Pokorny, and Cole Godkin all worked an inning on the mound. Corbin posted two strikeouts as Schaper had one.
Ford Spigener would top ETBU with three hits while Cameron Neel drove in two RBI. Jake Miller (two hits) and Nick Deatherage (hit) would also record an RBI.
 
Game 1: CC 7, ETBU 0
After a scoreless first, the Gents took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI double. ETBU did get a runner in scoring position as Will Kelley reached second on an error and a wild pitch but he would be left stranded.
 
ETBU's offense would be held to one hit through five innings while CC opened their lead with runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. A double by Spigener in the top of the sixth brought him in scoring position but he was left on base. CC then tacked on two runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull away with a 7-0 win.
 
Game 1: CC 12, ETBU 5
CC carried their momentum into the first two innings of game two as they scored three runs for the early lead. ETBU did put runners at the corners in the top of the third only to come up empty. In the fourth inning, CC would load the bases with nobody out before a grand slam made it 7-0.
 
ETBU would get on the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the sixth as Nicholas Deatherage reached on an error to score Spigener while Jake Miller drove in Deatherage to trail, 7-2. CC answered with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth bringing it back to 8-2. Spigener then collected an RBI single in the seventh inning while Neel would put up a two run double in the top of the eighth as ETBU pulled within three, 8-5. CC would put four runs in their half of the eighth to finish with the sweep, 12-5.
 
ETBU will have a quick trip to Irving, Texas, this Tuesday at 2:00 PM to take on the University of Dallas.
