SHREVEPORT, La. – Controlling the game from the start, the #13 East Texas Baptist University softball team won their season opener shutting out Centenary College, 13-0.
Beatriz Lara threw a one-hit shutout recording eight strikeouts.
Lara also led the team offensively with three hits recording one RBI.
Kaitlin Hunter also posted three hits and two RBI while
Daniella Solis added two hits.
Hannah Garcia,
Emily Deramus,
India Holland,
Ramzi Smith,
Corley Carpenter, and
Mariah Delgado all had one RBI in the game.
After a scoreless first inning, ETBU gained a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Ka.Hunter and Garcia each ad the RBI in the inning for the two-run lead. Three runs were posted in the third inning as Lara and Delgado had a RBI each and Solis came home on a steal as ETBU went up 5-0.
The fourth inning brought four more runs on RBI from Carpenter, Holland, Deramus, and Ka.Hunter making it 9-0. Smith recorded a RBI in fifth and then three runs scored on a throwing error making it 13-0.
ETBU will host Hardin-Simmons University on Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in a double header at Taylor Field.
