MARSHALL, Texas – Unable to overcome the offensive barrage by Concordia University Texas, the East Texas Baptist University baseball dropped the double header on Saturday to the Tornados, 13-1, and 6-3. ETBU drops is now 3-14 overall and 3-6 in American Southwest Conference.
Dylan Singletary led the effort in game one, turning in two hits in three appearances at the plate.
Christopher Robinson scored the team's only run of the game to go along with one stolen base in seven innings played.
Alan Underwood (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in four innings of work. Underwood also managed five strikeouts in the ballgame. CTX's Calvin Bush improved to 4-0 on the season.
Samuel Rowland headlined the effort in game two, recording one run, a RBI and a homerun in four at-bats.
Ford Spigener recorded a hit, and a RBI in three at-bats, while Nick Deatherage recorded a hit with three stolen bases and
Drew Large and
Zachary McAdams each posted hits.
Peyton Miller suffered the loss for the Tigers, dropping to 0-4 on the season. The Tornados Michael Smith recorded the win in game two, improving to 3-0 for the season.
Game 1 | CTX 13, ETBU 1 (7 Innings)
Robinson would score the game's first run in the bottom of the second inning, sliding in after a single up to center field by McAdams to give ETBU the 1-0 lead.
The Tornados would eventually storm out of the gates in the top of the fourth. A double by Dalton Watts would advance both Ryan Clouse and Marcus Thach for the 2-1 lead. A homerun by Casen Novak would send two more home and increase the Concordia lead to three, at 4-1.
ETBU would have no answers for CTX's offense as the Tornados would tack on nine more runs to close out the win in game one, 13-1.
Game 2 | CTX 6, ETBU 3
The bottom of the first inning saw the Tigers strike first for the lead. A walk found Singletary on at first, making way for Deatherage to make a play at the plate. A single to the right side of the field by Deatherage advanced Singletary to second base. After a stolen base by Singletary, ETBU would use a ground out RBI by
Sayers Collins to score the game's first run. Spigener responded with a single to left center that would score Deatherage, pushing the score to 2-0.
CTX found themselves on the board after a triple by Collin Mask scored Mason DuBois, making the deficit 2-1. The Tigers responded in the bottom of the third with a homerun by Rowland, putting ETBU ahead 3-1. The Tornados eventually tied the ballgame after two runs scored on a double by Jacob Gwynne, sending home DuBois and Hernandez to square the contest at 3-3.
CTX would never look back, as they went on to add three more runs to the lead, capped off by a single by Bret Leiferman that would score Clouse, ending with the 6-3 final score in the final game of the series.
ETBU will travel to Belton, Texas, for a three-game series against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor starting on Friday, March 13
th.
