#TIGERSWIN | MS | Late Goal Gives ETBU ASC Victory Over HPU

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Coming down to final five minutes of the match, East Texas Baptist University's Isaiah Simien netted the go-ahead goal as the Tigers picked up an American Southwest Conference win over Howard Payne University. The men's soccer team is now 3-9-2 and 2-5-1 in the ASC.
 
In the match, HPU recorded 22 shots with six on goal scoring just one while ETBU had eight shots with five on goal scoring two. Simien led the way a with a goal recording three shots and one on goal. Brady Box (one goal), Zachary Thorsen, and Justus Crow all had shots on goal. Gunner Barry recorded five saves in the game.
 
After 40 minutes of no scoring, Box put ETBU up, 1-0, with a shot to the back of the net in the 42nd minute on an assist from Crow. HPU's only shot on goal came in the 15th minute as Barry pulled in his first save. Overall, HPU had nine shots with only one on goal.
 
HPU tied the match up at one in in the 53rd minute of the second half. They had a shot on goal in the 49h minute that was stopped but then converted in the 53rd minute. Barry came through in the 61st, 65th, and 68th minutes recording saves as HPU pressured to take the lead. Crow's shot for ETBU in the 72 minute fell short on a HPU save and then the Tigers played a man down the rest of the way after a red card. Simien then came through in the 85th minute for the go-ahead goal. HPU tried to tie the game in the 88th minute but the shot went high and to the left as ETBU took the victory.
 
ETBU travels to Sul Ross State on Saturday for another ASC match beginning at 3:30 p.m.
