RICHARDSON, Texas – Playing their final American Southwest Conference regular season road match, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team was defeated by the University of Texas Dallas in three sets, 19-25, 17-25, 19-25. ETBU is now 12-10 on the year and 9-7 in the ASC.
Avery Reid led the team with 12 kills and a .345 hitting percentage adding nine digs.
Annie Harris then had 10 kills (.625 hitting percentage) as
Kaylee Morton added 19 assists.
Maddison Harris recorded a double-double with 11 assists and 11 digs.
ETBU jumped out to a 4-2 lead in set one on kills from Harris and
Kiley Smink. UTD answered with a 10=3 run for a five-point lead, 12-7. UTD then kept their distance the rest of the set as ETBU would only come as close as three falling 25-19.
Set two was tied three times early on at four, five, and six but UTD came back with a 5-0 run for the lead, 11-6. This set mirrored set one as UTD kept ETBU away between four to five points finishing with a 25-17 win.
UTD took a 4-0 lead in set three but ETBU came back to within one, 6-5. Harris had a service ace in the run with kills from Harris and Reid. Within one again, 7-6, UTD went on a 13-3 run for a 20-10 lead. ETBU answered with a 9-3 run to pull within four, 23-19, but couldn't get closer as UTD won, 25-19.
ETBU will host McMurry University and Hardin-Simmons University in their final two regular season home games of the season this weekend.
