MS | Avoids Shutout, but Still Falls Against Hardin-Simmons

ABILENE, Texas - Despite scoring late goal to break the shutout, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team would fall 3-1 to Hardin-Simmons University. ETBU leaves HSU with a 1-7-2 overall record and 0-3-1 in American Southwest Conference play.

Of the seven total shots taken by the team, Gabriel Alvarez and Levi Rogers would each pick up two shots for the team high. Alvarez would also pick up the assist to Maison Callicut, who netted the lone goal in the final minute of the game. Gunner Barry picked up three saves in goal for the Tigers.

The Cowboys scored two goals in the first half at the 3rd and 25th minutes. In those 22 minutes, the Tigers managed just one shot as HSU's defense gave them trouble to break through going into halftime. ETBU did put up early chances to get on the board only to be unsuccessful while the Cowboys added a third goal in the 61st minute. HSU finished with two saves from their goalkeeper and they were just 33 seconds away from the shutout when Callicut tallied the first ETBU goal.

ETBU hits the road next week to take on Belhaven University at 7:30 PM on Oct. 9th.
