FB | ETBU Shutout in Second Half Falling to TLU, 20-13

MARSHALL, Texas – Being shutout in the second half, the East Texas Baptist University football fell to Texas Lutheran University, 20-13, in American Southwest Conference play. ETBU is now 4-4 on the year and 3-4 in the ASC.
 
Troy Yowman threw for 196 yards with one touchdown as Semaj Boyd was the top receiver with 91 yards on five receptions and one touchdown. Josh Lister ran for 61 yards on nine carries. Tucker Momon led the team with 14 tackles. Joey Johnson forced a fumble and had 13 tackles while Zach Pike had 10 tackles.
 
ETBU jumped out to an early 13-3 lead in the first half. Boyd caught a 37-yard pass from Yowman in the first quarter on their second possession to go up 7-0. TLU drove all the way down to ETBU's 12-yard line but were stopped forcing a field goal that the Bulldogs missed.
 
TLU fought right back in to start the second quarter after an ETBU punt. They went 11 plays down to ETBU's four-yard line but was denied again. This time the Bulldogs made the field goal from 21-yards out to pull within four, 7-3. ETBU came right back with their own long drive of 80-yards to move the score to 13-3 missing the extra point. Yowman pushed his way in from two-yards out for the rushing touchdown and the 10-point lead. Once again, TLU drove down the field but came up short of a touchdown as they made a 30-yard field goal with 13 seconds left in the half as they came with seven, 13-6, at the half.
 
It was all TLU in the second half as they scored 14 points in the third quarter and held ETBU scoreless. On their opening possession, they went just three plays and 50-yards ending in a 42-yard run to tie the game at 13 with 13:10 in the quarter. ETBU's first two possessions ended in punts as TLU made the stops. On TLU's third possession, they went 69-yards over four minutes to take the lead, 20-13.
 
Nobody scored in the fourth quarter but ETBU had a chance to tie the game. They started the fourth quarter with momentum coming in already going 25 yards on three Lister runs to the 50-yard line. Eight plays later they were on the TLU one-yard line first and goal. A false start moved the ball back five-yards but Jaden Thomas ran the ball back to the one-yard line for second and goal. Thomas was stopped for no gain on second down and then Yowman went down on third-and-one at the one for a one-yard loss. With fourth-and-two, Yoman's pass was intercepted in the endzone ending ETBU's threat. TLU ahd an eight-minute drive giving the ball back to ETBU with 30 seconds left as the Tigers had 79 yards to go. The made it to the 41-yard line as time expired and TLU took the win, 20-13.
 
ETBU heads to Alpine, Texas, to face Sul Ross State University at 1:00 p.m. next Saturday.
