MARSHALL, Texas – Making the American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Tournament for the fourth year in a row, East Texas Baptist University's season came to an end in the first round to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 2-1. ETBU finishes the year at 4-12-2. It is also the third straight year under head coach
Chad Cox to make the tournament.
ETBU finished the game with 10 shots as four were on goal as UMHB had 15 shots and six on goal.
Isaiah Simien led the team five shots (two on goal) while
Garrett Garvin had three shots (one on goal). Christian Hernandez recorded four saves.
After 15 minutes of scoreless play, both teams struck the net for a 1-1 tie. UMHB found the net in the 16
th minute but then Simien tied the game in the 19
th minute on an assist from
Zach Schmidt. Hernandez then stopped shots in the 22
nd and 28
th minutes to keep it tied. Garvin tried to give ETBU the lead in the 45
th minute but came up short as it was saved.
Justus Crow also had a shot on goal in the 27
th minute.
UMHB's defense stopped ETBU in the second half with only three shots and one on goal. The Crusaders scored in the 50
th minute for the lead and then held ETBU as the Tigers season ended, 2-1.
