BELTON, Texas – Finishing off the season with the first winning record since 2015, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team's season ended in the first round of the American Southwest Conference Tournament to Sul Ross State University, 19-25, 24-26, 13-25. ETBU ends the year with a 14-11 record.
Kayla Rainey led ETBU with 12 kills posting eight digs.
Kaylee Morton had 14 assists while
Lillie Hill added 16 digs.
Hope Shipp finished with eight kills and 10 digs.
ETBU held a two-point early in set one, 6-4, with kills from Shipp, Rainey, and
Avery Reid. They moved their lead to three, 11-8, on a SRSU service ace before the Lobos went on an 8-3 run to take the lead, 16-14. ETBU tied the set at 17 on a SRSU ball handling error but once again the Lobos fought back with a 4-0 run and 21-17 lead. They went on to take set one, 25-19.
Set two proved to be the closest set of the match as SRSU came back to take it, 26-24. The set had 11 ties with the largest lead being three by ETBU. Both teams battled into the 20s. ETBU had a 20-17 lead when SRSU tied the set at 22, 23, and 24. SRSU then took the set on two kills 26-24.
After a 9-9 tie in set three, SRSU went on a 8-2 run for a 17-11 lead. The Lobos never looked back in the 25-13 win ending ETBU's season.
ETBU has made 18 ASC Tournament appearances which is the most in the conference.
