#TIGERSWIN | WBB | #17 ETBU Takes LETU in Rival Game

LONGVIEW, Texas – Four players scored in double figures for #17 East Texas Baptist University as they outlasted LeTourneau University, 75-63, in American Southwest Conference women's basketball action. ETBU is now 7-2 and 3-1 in the ASC.
 
Mallory Stephens, Hanna Hudson, Grace Stephens, and Jade Goynes all had 10+ points for ETBU. Mallory Stephens posted 15 points while her sister Grace Stephens had 14 points with seven rebounds and four assists. Goynes was 5-of-6 from the field for 12 points while Hudson added 10 points going a perfect 3-of-3 from the floor. Keauna Whitfield led LETU with 17 points. ETBU out rebounded LETU, 37-27, as both teams had 14 steals.
 
LETU came out battling early in the first quarter taking a 4-0 lead. They pushed it to 6-2 before ETBU went on a 9-2 run for a five-point lead, 11-6. Goynes, on an assist from Bridget Upton, put ETBU up by five with a three-pointer. Upton and Hailey Fieseler all scored in the run, too. LETU came back to tie the game at 15 (1:12) but Goynes scored her eighth point of the period with a three-pointer to end the period for a three-point lead, 18-15.
 
After the game was tied at 18, ETBU had a 7-2 run for another five-point lead, 25-20, with 6:52 remaining. Hudson gave ETBU the five-point lead on a three-pointer and then by the 5:28 mark Grace Stephens put the Tigers up by seven, 29-22. With 2:32 left in the half, Kaia Williams hit a floating jump shot for an 11-point lead, 35-24, as ETBU had their first double-digit lead. In the final minute, both teams exchanged lay ups and one free throw as ETBU took a 38-39 lead into the half.
 
It was an electric third quarter as both teams shot above 60% and scored 20+ points. ETBU kept their double-digit lead as Taylor Singleton hit a free throw to make it 42-32 at the 7:37 mark. LETU did come within five, 48-43, with 3:28 left, but a Goynes lay up but the lead back at seven, 50-43. With 1:06 left, Grace Stephens went 3-of-3 from the fou line for a 10-point lead, 58-48. Mallory Stephens then hit a three-pointer with three seconds left putting ETBU up, 63-51, to end the third quarter.
 
ETBU had their largest lead in the fourth quarter with 4:11 remaining by 20-points, 75-55. Just a minute into the half, LETU was down 12 points, 65-53, when ETBU when on a 10-2 run over five minutes for the 20-point lead. Emma Stelzer had four of the 10 points in the run as ETBU put the game away. The shot by Stelzer for the 75 points of the game was the last shot ETBU hit in the final four minutes as they won 75-63.
 
ETBU will be back in Ornelas Gym next week hosting Sul Ross State and Howard Payne University on Thursday and Saturday.
