SHREVEPORT, La., - Playing their first nine-inning game of the season, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team's comeback attempt fell short against Centenary College, 7-4. ETBU falls to 2-1 on the season.
Carson Wilson (RBI) and
Jase Jones recorded two hits for ETBU each while
Austin Barry and
Jake Miller had an RBI in the game as well. On the mound,
Blake Corbin was tagged with the loss going 3.0 innings allowing three runs on three hits while striking out three batters.
Ben Bridges propelled CC's offense with four hits in five at-bats while driving in a run. Two RBI would come from Preston Ludwick. Connor Lee would earn the win for the Gents with five innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four batters. Parker Primeaux recorded four innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out four batters to get the save.
After a scoreless first inning, the Tigers struck first in the top of the second inning as
Colson Sledge would reach on an error to score Wilson. The Gents answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Tigers would put runners in scoring position in the next two innings only to come up empty. Capitalizing on their fourth inning, CC added two runs to lead 5-1.
ETBU's bats would suddenly click as an RBI groundout from
Jake Miller and an RBI single by Wilson would help ETBU cut the lead down to two, 5-3, in the top of the fifth. One inning later, Barry made it 5-4 with an RBI single. CC, however would manage two runs in the bottom of the seventh to extend their lead. ETBU couldn't put a rally in the last two innings as the Gents closed them out.
ETBU will be back in action next weekend hosting the University of Dallas for three games. Game one will be on Friday night at 7:00 PM while the two Saturday games will start at 1:00 PM.
