MARSHALL, Texas - Playing two contests at the Veterans Memorial Tennis Complex, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team finished with a split in a pair of 9-0 games. Winning against Howard Payne University, 9-0, the Tigers then fell to Trinity University, 9-0, as they are now 5-2 overall.
Game 1: ETBU 9, HPU 0
Both No. 1 (
Elisa Kendall/
Maddi Davis) and No. 2 (
Ashley Schenck/
Cassidy Wilcoxson) each had 8-2 doubles wins.
Faith Kirk and
Kelsey Roberts would drop just one point to HPU in their 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Roberts would then have her second win of the day at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-1) while Schenck battled hard in a super tiebreaker (1-6, 6-0, 10-6) to take her No. 1 singles match.
Corrine Hall dropped one point at No. 3 singles (6-1, 6-0) while Syvoney Ibarra posted a 6-3, 6-1 result at No. 4 singles.
Gabbi Hammerbach (6-0, 6-0) and Andrea Alvarez (6-0, 6-0) then won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches not allowing an points in their match.
Game 2: TU 9, ETBU 0
Only Kendall and Davis would get points in their No. 1 doubles match falling 8-2. Kendall would then have the closest match in her No. 1 singles event falling 6-4, 7-5. Schenck would have another close match at No. 2 singles falling 6-4, 6-3.
ETBU is back home this Thursday at 11:00 AM when they host LSU-Shreveport.
