@ETBU_Volleyball Pushes #6 UTD

MARSHALL, Texas - Facing off with the #6 University of Texas Dallas in their final home matches of the season, the East Texas Baptist University volleyball team was unable to knock off the Comets. ETBU fell in match one, 3-0, and then 3-1 in match two. ETBU is now 8-7 overall and 7-7 in the American Southwest Conference.

Despite a close first set, ETBU fell in three matches (25-21, 25-14, 25-18). Ainsley Reeve led ETBU with five kills. Claire Johnson and Kaylee Morton each recorded six assists while Macy Guerrero added five assists. Lillie Hill finished with 15 digs.

ETBU would become the second team this season to take a set from UTD, but still lost in four (20-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-16). Kayla Rainey collected a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs. Hill once again added 15 digs in the match while Johnson and Guerrero combined for 35 assists.

The first set was close and tight as ETBU and UTD exchanged points until the Tigers led 16-12. Following a UTD run of six unanswered, ETBU would go on a 5-1 run to lead 21-19 only for the Comets to steal the first set with six straight points and a 25-21 win. After both sides traded points to begin set two, UTD would take command and never relinquished their lead to a 25-14 victory. The Tigers started the third set with five straight points, but the Comets would overcome the deficit and emerge with a 25-18 win.

Once again, the first set of the second match was close as UTD led 19-16. However, ETBU surprised the Comets with a 9-1 run to end victorious 25-20 in set one. Each team would battle in set two tying the score at 19 until the Comets recorded a 6-1 run to win 25-20 and even the match at one set a piece. The final two sets would follow the same pattern of close scores before a late Comets run would give them the win 25-17 and 25-16 to sweep the doubleheader.

ETBU's last regular season games will be on the road in Longview against LeTourneau University next Wednesday night starting at 4:30 PM.
