#TIGERSWIN | @ETBU_Baseball Takes First Two Games of ASC Series vs. Ozarks

MARSHALL, Texas - Facing the University of Ozarks in a big American Southwest Conference series, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team picked up two key wins in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, 3-2, and 10-4. The Tigers are now in second place in the American Southwest Conference standings at 15-5 with a 22-11 overall record.

ETBU scratched across a 3-2 win in game one. Will Kelley and Christopher Robinson (RBI) each recorded two hits to lead ETBU. Cameron Neel and Christopher Shay also had a RBI to contribute to the win. Behind six innings in which he allowed two runs on four hits, Alvarenga (five strikeouts) would earn his sixth win of the season while Arellano picked up the save with a perfect seventh inning.

Tied at 3-3 after four innings, the Tigers would then outscore the Eagles 7-1 in the final six innings to preserve the 10-4 victory in game two. Zachary McAdams had a four-hit day and a RBI. Austin Barry (two hits, three RBI), Shay (two hits, two RBI), and Robinson (two hits, RBI) combined for six hits and six RBI. Sayers Collins had another strong relief outing with 6.0 innings allowing one run on four hits and five strikeouts for the win.

Game 1: ETBU 3, UO 2 (7 Inn.)
The Tigers struck first on a two-out RBI single by Neel in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 lead. Both teams then scored twice in the second as ETBU had RBI singles by Shay and Robinson to lead 3-2 after two. A big double play in the third inning by ETBU's defense kept the Eagles off the board to remain in front.

After a perfect fourth, Alvarenga conceded a two-out single in the fifth inning. Fortunately, he retired the next four hitters to keep ETBU ahead on the scoreboard. Asked to pick up the save, Arellano struck out two batters before getting the final out on a groundout to second in the seventh inning.

Game 2: ETBU 10, UO 4
Both teams tallied two runs in the second inning as ETBU had RBI singles from Barry and Shay to knot the score at two. The third inning saw each side score a run with ETBU getting theirs on a RBI single by McAdams. After a leadoff single in the fourth, the Eagles were held in check when Collins entered and retired the side. He then pitched out of a two-runner on base jam in the fifth inning.

ETBU's bats were hot in the fifth inning producing four runs. A wild pitch that scored McAdams was followed by RBI singles from Barry, Robinson, and Colson Sledge for a 7-3 lead. Kelley then singled in the eighth run for ETBU in the sixth inning while UO would homer in the top of the eighth inning to come within four, 8-4. Barry's third RBI of the game was a sacrifice fly to center that scored McAdams while Shay singled in the 10th run as ETBU finished off the sweep, 10-4.

Honoring their seniors tomorrow, ETBU will host UO at 2:00 PM for the series finale.
