JACKSON, Miss. – A late inning rally by Belhaven University handed the East Texas Baptist University baseball team a 5-4 loss in 10 innings of the opening game of the American Southwest Conference series. ETBU is now 22-13 overall and 15-7 in the ASC.
Christopher Robinson led ETBU with two hits and two RBI, which included a double.
Carson Wilson scored twice and added a single while
Jake Miller tallied an RBI.
Cole Godkin allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out five in 7.2 innings.
Sayers Collins received the loss in 1.1 innings of relief.
Two batters into the game, an RBI triple by Miller put the Tigers up 1-0 in the first inning. They added two more runs in the top of the second when
Zachary McAdams scored on a balk and Robinson drove in Wilson on a single. A lead off BU single in the bottom half would start a rally that later ended with a strike-out throw-out double play from Neel as ETBU kept the lead, 3-0.
Robinson's second RBI occurred in the top of the fourth inning when he doubled in Wilson giving ETBU a 4-0 lead. The Blazers broke the shutout in their fourth inning on a fielder's choice to trail 4-1. Godkin kept BU three runs behind through seven innings. But the Blazers turned the tide scoring three runs to knot the game at four in the bottom of the eighth inning. The game proceeded into extra innings as ETBU failed to score while BU needed three batters to get the winning run in on a single in the 10
th inning.
ETBU will face the Blazers tomorrow at 1:00 PM to start the doubleheader.
