RICHARDSON, Texas - Giving it their all in a must-win game in the Gold Bracket Championship series, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team came up short of forcing a game three to the University of Texas Dallas Comets falling, 5-1. ETBU ends their season at 29-10 overall. This is the second time in five seasons that ETBU has played for the ASC tournament championship with their first in 2017.
Jake Miller would record two hits for ETBU, including the only run of the day on a home run.
Isaiah Alvarenga received the loss going 5.2 innings allowing five runs on nine hits while striking out four batters.
Sayers Collins would pitch 3.1 scoreless innings in relief and struck out five batters.
Alvarenga escaped trouble in the first inning thanks to a double play. UTD would get their first run with a two-out single in the second inning and left the bases loaded in the third inning. Needing a spark, the Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run from Miller.
The Comets would put up four runs over the next two innings to grab a 5-1 lead. The Tigers scoring chances in the sixth and seventh innings would not lead to runs as UTD's pitching stopped any ETBU threat. ETBU put the first two runners on in the eighth inning, but couldn't get them in.
