MARSHALL, Texas - Facing elimination, the #7 East Texas Baptist University softball team held onto a 2-1 win over the #9 Salisbury University Sea Gulls. ETBU keeps their season alive and is 33-6 headed into the NCAA Division III Marshall, Texas Regional Championship game vs. #5 Birmingham Southern. ETBU will have to defeat BSC twice for the championship.
Sarah Cedillo and
Mariah Delgado each contributed two hits while scoring both runs.
Tauryn Cummings and
Tristen Maddox would have a RBI each.
Savannah Buhl received the win in relief going 3.2 scoreless innings allowing one hit and one strikeout. Presyle Cox started the game going 3.1 innings with two strikeouts.
Each side would have a runner in scoring position in the first inning before both pitchers kept them off the scoreboard. A quick scoreless second inning followed for both teams. SU broke the scoreless affair with a third inning solo home run.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Tigers' offense came alive in the fifth. They scored two runs as Cummings reached on a bases loaded fielder's choice scoring the first run while Maddox drove in Delgado on a sacrifice fly. Buhl would come in and keep SU scoreless for the final three innings to preserve a 2-1 win.
ETBU plays for the regional championship at 3:30 p.m.
