MARSHALL, Texas - Trailing 3-1 through four innings, the East Texas Baptist University baseball team's bats woke up and scored nine unanswered runs for a 10-3 win over the University of Ozarks in the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Red Bracket Championship Tournament. At 28-14, the Tigers will play in the championship game of the tournament for the second time in three seasons.
Chris Robinson was ETBU's top performer with three RBI on three hits.
Will Kelley also had three hits while
Carson Wilson (two hits) and
Mason Bobo (HR) each recorded two RBI.
Isaiah Alvarenga would set a new season high with a complete nine-inning game win allowing three runs on six hits with eight strikeouts moving to 9-2 on the year.
The Eagles started off with a RBI single in the first inning for the early lead. While Robinson answered for the Tigers with an RBI single in the second, UO would retake the lead with two runs in the third inning. The Tiger bats managed four hits through four innings and still trailed 3-1.
All that changed in the fifth as ETBU grabbed the lead with four runs. After a Wilson single tied the score bringing in two runs,
Cameron Neel and
Zachary McAdams added RBI knocks for a 5-3 lead. It became 6-3 in the sixth when Robinson picked up his second RBI on another single. Two innings later, a Kelley double, a sac fly from
Austin Barry, and a two-run homer from Bobo put the game out of reach.
ETBU will try to clinch the ASC Red Bracket tomorrow in the first game starting at 1:00 PM. If needed, a second game will take place after the first game. They will face the winner of the Ozarks/Louisiana College game.
