MARSHALL, Texas - Behind a strong defensive performance, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team opened their fall 2021 season with a 2-0 shutout victory over Hendrix College at Cornish Field. The Tigers are 1-0 following the win.
Conceding just four shots all game on defense, ETBU finished with 15 shots total, including four on goal.
Raegan Kappler and
Taylor Duran netted goals for ETBU in the win.
Sarah Ramos would pick up her first career assist on the goal to Kappler. Both
Claire Montondon (two saves) and
Addison Funk each played a half and produced a shutout for ETBU.
After feeling the Warriors for the first 11 minutes, Kappler (11:10) connected with the crossbar to score the first goal for the Tigers. ETBU's defense would keep the Warriors without a goal for the rest of the half as Montondon picked up a save in the 40th minute.
As the second half started, the Tigers would take control of the contest and deliver 12 second half shots while the defense held HC without a shot. ETBU would add the insurance goal from Duran (82:00) to put the game out of reach.
ETBU will be on the road this Monday at 5:00 PM against Centenary College.
