Box Score 2 MARSHALL, Texas - Opening their fall 2021 season at Cornish Field, the East Texas Baptist University men's soccer team wound up finishing with a 2-2 draw against Jarvis Christian College. ETBU is 0-0-1 now on the season.
ETBU was outshot 17-11 and 7-4 in shots on goal.
Garrett Garvin posted a team high four shots as Maison Calicut and
Juan Cairo each scored a goal.
Tristan Whelchel made four saves in 110 minutes of play.
The first 17 minutes were a defensive struggle although JCC had two shots on goal. But, it would be their third shot in the 19th minute that brought the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. JCC would hold ETBU without a shot until the 28th minute. One minute later, Callicut had his first shot saved, but scored on the rebound to tie the game.
The score stayed tied at the break, but just 56 seconds into the second half, the Bulldogs retook the lead at 2-1. JCC would keep applying pressure with a couple of shots the next 10 minutes. Then, in the 61st minute, a penalty committed by the Bulldogs gave ETBU an opportunity to tie, which Cairo capitalized with the penalty kick. Each side created multiple chances to get the leading goal, but wound up going into overtime. One overtime session saw a few corner kick chances for ETBU but could not convert them. The second overtime brought four defensive stops by ETBU on JCC scoring chances before the clock struck zero on the tie.
ETBU will hit the road this Saturday when they take on the University of Dallas at 7:00 PM in Irving, Texas.
