MARSHALL, Texas – It was a team defensive effort that led to #14 East Texas Baptist University's win over Concordia University-Texas, 61-37, as they held the Tornados to just 15 points in the first half. ETBU is now 10-3 and 6-2 in the American Southwest Conference.
In just 23 minutes of play,
Kaia Williams led ETBU with 11 points with one block.
Hanna Hudson added nine points with four rebounds.
Mollie Dittmar led with seven rebounds. Mikayla Johnson had 12 points for CTX.
ETBU held CTX to just 20% shooting (11-of-54) as they shot 31% from the arc and 75% from the line. ETBU finished shooting 39%% overall making 25% from the three-point line and 100% (4-of-4) from the stripe. ETBU grabbed 59 rebounds to CTX's 23 and forced 13 turnovers.

FIRST HALF
Holding CTX to just nine points in the first quarter and six in the second, ETBU was up 30-15 at the half. ETBU's offense was colder on the day starting off slow in the first quarter. Up only 4-0 just three minutes into the game, CTX scored their first bucket at the 6:20 mark to cut the lead to two, 4-2. A
Bridget Upton jumper and a
Haley Fieseler lay-up gave ETBU an 8-2 lead with 4:46 left in the first. At the 2:24 mark, Hudson nailed one of her three-pointers on the day for a nine-point lead, 13-4. CTX finished the quarter on a 5-0 run to come within four at the end of the first quarter, 13-9.
The second quarter led to just six points for CTX as ETBU held the Tornados to just 16% shooting. The Tornados came within three, 15-12, just under two minutes in but ETBU went on a 13-3 run over four minutes. Hudson, Fieseler, Upton,
Brooke Webster, and
Mallory Stephens all scored in the run. After Stephen's basket at the 4:15 mark for the big lead, nobody scored until Webster made a fast break lay-up with 23 seconds left going into the half with the 15-point lead, 30-15.

SECOND HALF
Hudson made it an 18-point lead at the 8:07 mark with the first made shot of the second half, 33-15. Upton gave ETBU their first 20+ lead, 39-18, with 3:45 left on a lay-up. Williams canned a three-pointer for a 23-point lead, 42-19 (2:37), and finished off the quarter with another three for a 50-26 advantage.
Once again a quarter started with a three-pointer as
Grace Stephens put ETBU up by 27, 53-26, with 8:54 left in the game. CTX had the lead down to 23, 55-32, with five minutes to go only to see
Jenna Rasbury make it 27-point game, again, 59-32, at the 2:32 mark.
Jade Goynes had the last made shot of the game for ETBU, 61-35, as CTX finished off with a final bucket to make it, 61-37, overall.

ETBU grabbed 59 rebounds for the most in a game this season holding CTX to just 23.
NOTES
- It is the ninth time this year that ETBU has held an opponent to single digits in a quarter.
- For the second time this year, ETBU only allowed single digits in the first two quarters with nine in the first and six in the second. The last time was vs. Ferrum on Nov. 11 with six in the first and five points in the second quarter.
- The four free throws are the lowest amount taken all season as they took 11 twice during the year. They made all four for 100% shooting.
- Mollie Dittmar led the team in rebounding for the second time this season with seven. Her last time was against Emory with eight.
- Haley Fieseler's two blocks are the first of the season for her and is a career-high.
- Brooke Webster grabbed a season high five rebounds and was just one shy of her career-high.
- Hanna Hudson has made three three-pointers in a game three times this year. She has now made three three-pointers in back-to-back games.
- ETBU has now taken 60+ shots from the floor in six straight games going 25-of-63 vs. CTX. They took 91 shots vs. Rhodes for the most on the year.
- ETBU has now won the last four meetings and is 8-9 vs. CTX since 2002. They have won the last four meeting by an average of 15 points.
