MARSHALL, Texas – Shutting out Howard Payne University in American Southwest Conference play, #4 East Texas Baptist University scored 15 runs in the double header wins. ETBU won 8-0 and 7-0 moving to 8-3 on the year and in the ASC.
Kathryn Reed (4-0) and
Ashley Croft (2-1) earned the wins as Reed posted three strikeouts and Croft six.
Delanie Loya and
Tristen Maddox both had four hits on the day as Loya posted six RBI and Maddox two.
Corley Carpenter and
Courtney White both had three this.

Game 1
ETBU 8, HPU 0 – 5 innings
ETBU did all their scoring in four innings to take the five-inning win, 8-0. Reed went all five innings with three strikeouts retiring the side in the third inning. Loya was 3-of-3 with two RBI while Maddox, White, and
Mary Frances Ellis all had two hits. White,
Tauryn Cummings,
Marin Musicant, Reed,
Lorena Ramirez, Ellis all recorded one RBI.
ETBU scored three runs in the first inning as White brought in the first run. Musicant then singled in White for the 2-0 lead. Loya made it 3-0 on a single as Cummings scored. In the third inning, Cummings homered for the 4-0 lead. Reed added a run on ground out and then Frances singled in
Sarah Bledsoe making it 6-0. Loya record her second RBI in the fourth on a double and then Ramirez finished it out with a single for the 8-0 win.
Game 2
ETBU 7, HPU 0
It took only two innings of scoring for ETBU as they brought in two in the second and five in the fourth for the 7-0 win. Croft went the distance with six strikeouts for her second win of the year. Maddox and Carpenter had two hits each. Loya led the team with four RBI on a grand slam home run.
Maddox doubled in Musicant and Ramirez in the second inning for the 2-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Carpenter singled in Gil for the 3-0 lead. Loya then opened up the flood gates of scoring with a grand slam home run down the left field line for the 7-0 win.
ETBU will finish out the series on Monday at 12:00 p.m. vs. HPU.
