BB | Late UTD Rally Ends ETBU's Chances to Take ASC Championship on Day Two

MARSHALL, Texas – A late rally by the University of Texas Dallas ended East Texas Baptist University's hopes of sealing the American Southwest Conference Gold Tournament Championship on day two, 8-6. The two teams will play the decisive game on Saturday for the right to go to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
 
Sayers Collins broke the ETBU and ASC single season record for strikeouts recording six for 121 surpassing Marty Mayfield's record of 117 set in 2001. Collins went seven innings for the loss giving up seven earned runs and seven hits. Peyton Miller and Trent Clark both came in relief.
 
ETBU had 12 hits with two home runs from Austin Barry and Jake Miller. Carson Wilson, Christopher Robinson, Brett Wagner, and Miller all had two hits. Barry led the way with two RBI while Wilson, Jase Jones, Zachary McAdams, and Miller all had one RBI.
 
ETBU took a 3-0 lead after two innings and the momentum early. Barry had a two-run home run in the first inning followed by a Miller home run in the second inning. UTD then scored five runs in the second inning to take the lead, 5-3. In the sixth inning, ETBU scored three runs for a 6-5 lead. Jones doubled in Wagner for a urn and then McAdams followed to bring in Jones to tie the game at five. Wilson then had a sac fly to give ETBU the lead, 6-5. UTD followed with two runs in the seventh, 7-6, and then added an insurance run in the eighth, 8-6, to take the game.
 
ETBU plays at 1:00 p.m. for the ASC Tournament Championship.
