#TIGERSWIN | BB | ETBU Unleashes Offense for 12 Runs; Godkin Records Nine Strikeouts

MARSHALL, Texas – It took six innings to put the offense in gear but when it happened East Texas Baptist University erupted for 10 runs as they came from behind to run-rule LeTourneau University, 12-2, in the American Southwest Conference Blue Bracket Tournament. ETBU trailed for five innings, 2-0, before unleashing their offense in the sixth inning. They are now 30-11 and now have won 30 or more games in four of the last six seasons.

Cole Godkin went eight innings for his seventh win of the year recording nine strikeouts giving up just two earned runs. ETBU had 17 hits with eight players recording two hits each. Brett Wagner led the team with four RBI while Jake Miller added two RBI and Carson Wilson, Will Kelley, Jase Jones, and Zachary McAdams all had one RBI. Wagner posted a home run while Kelley recorded a triple.

LeTourneau scored first in the first inning for the 1-0 lead. ETBU had chances in two of the early innings to score but left the runners on base. LETU then made it 2-0 in the top of the sixth inning and were cruising under the pitching of Martinez who had held ETBU in check through five innings.

That all changed in the bottom of the inning as ETBU batted around their lineup and added 10 runs to the scoreboard. With one on and no outs, Wagner tied the game at two with a home run shot down the left field line. Wilson made it 3-2 on a single through the right side as Miller came in and Charles Gordon scored on the same play for the two-run lead, 4-2. Kelley singled in Wilson for the fifth run and then Jones singled in a run making it 6-2. Christopher Robinson was the seventh run of the inning on a wild pitch and then Wagner recorded two more RBI with a double as Barry and Jones scored again. Miller recorded the final run on a sac fly to complete the 10-run inning and eight-run lead, 10-2.

The game then ended in the eighth inning as McAdams doubled in Barry making it 11-2. Miller finished off the scoring with a singled to left field as McAdams was the 12th run to put ETBU up by 10 and end the game.

ETBU will face #5 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
