CLEVELAND, Miss. – For the second day in a row taking on a NFCA top 10 team in the nation in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, #8 East Texas Baptist University found a way to pull out the victory, 3-2, over #5 Belhaven University. With the win, ETBU will make their 14
th appearance in the ASC Championship game and fourth straight overall.
Kathryn Reed pitched a gem allowing just four hits with seven strikeouts and one earned run earning her 11
th win of the year. ETBU had just five hits in the pitcher's dual as
Courtney White posted two hits.
Delanie Loya recorded two RBI and one hit as
Sarah Bledsoe and
Lorena Ramirez both had a hit.
It came down to the final inning, again, but this time in the top of the seventh inning as ETBU went ahead, 3-2. With two outs, Bledsoe was walked and then ran to second base. As she was running to second base the ball was thrown trying to get her out and White fearlessly stole home beating the throw back and tag for the go-ahead run.
In the bottom of the seventh, Reed struck out two of the three batters and a ground out for a 1-2-3 inning for the win. She also pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the sixth inning as BU threatened to take the lead. With the basses loaded and two outs, BU hit into a fielder's choice to end the sixth inning setting up the seventh for ETBU.
ETBU struck first in the first inning as Loya singled to left field as White scored. BU then tied the game in the fourth at one and then took the lead, 2-1, on a passed ball. Loya tied the game for ETBU in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly as White came in again making it 2-2.
ETBU will face the winner of #5 Belhaven/Hardin-Simmons game at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning for the ASC Championship.
