ALPINE, Texas – Making a 10-hour trip to West Texas as the longest road trip of the year for this young team, East Texas Baptist University fell to Sul Ross State University, 25-15, 25-18, 25-22. ETBU is now 10-1 on the year and 2-1 in the American Southwest Conference.
Overall, ETBU hit only .091 with 39 kills in three sets.
Graycee Mosley and
Avery Reid led the team in kills. Mosley posted 13 kills while Reid added nine. Lexi Moody collected 19 assists as
Lillie Hill had 20 digs. SRSU hit .214 in the match with 32 kills.
SRSU jumped out to a 10-4 lead in set one and never looked back. ETBU pulled to within four, 18-14, but couldn't get any closer. SRSU went on a 6-0 run to move the score to 24-14 and then won 25-15.
The two teams were tied at two in set two when SRSU went on a 5-2 run for a 7-4 lead. ETBU pulled to within one, 14-13, on a SRSU error but the Lobos went on another 5-2 run for a 19-15 lead. ETBU scored the next two points to make it 19-17 but SRSU went on for the win, 25-18.
Set three was the closest with several ties. SRSU went up 16-13 but ETBU went on a 6-2 run for a 19-18 lead. SRSU responded with a 4-0 run making it 22-19 before taking the match, 25-22.
ETBU will travel to Brownwood, Texas, to face Howard Payne University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
