Story Links

Marshall, TX – Playing their third match in five days, the East Texas Baptist University women's soccer team came away with a 3-0 shutout victory over Southwestern College (KS). ETBU came out firing on all cylinders working through the toughness of their early season taking 18 shots. With the win they are 2-1 on the year.

Aaliyah Casas led ETBU with two goals while Makayla Baxter had the other. There were 14 players that took shots with as four of them had two each. ETBU held SC to just 10 shots with seven on goal and took five corner kicks to SC's four. Megan McCarthy and Addison Funk split time in goal recording the shutout as McCarthy had three saves and Funk four.

In the first half ETBU lead with nine total shots as one was on goal. ETBU saw the ball tickle the back of the net in the 39th minute from a shot by Casas. Casas had a wonderful touch from a ball over the top by Izel Gaitan. She took it to the middle of the field and lofted a left footed shot past the keeper and into the side netting. Funk came away with four big saves with the second one being a one on one making a diving save.

ETBU kept their energy strong in the second half and saw an early foul drawn in the 58th minute. Makayla Baxter stood over the ball 40-yards out and hit a missile that powered through the hands of the keeper and landed in the back of the net earning her first collegiate goal making it 2-0 (59th minute). It didn't get any easier for Southwestern as Casas bagged her second goal of the match making it 3-0 in the 65th minute. Casas received a pass from Haley Malloy making a shifty cut back for the space needed to put the ball in for the final goal of the day.  McCarthy also saw time in goal making three saves including one that was shot through traffic.

ETBU will now head to Georgia this weekend to play Emory University and Piedmont College.
