GRANBURY, Texas – Rising to the top of the American Southwest Conference, East Texas Baptist University won the Men's Golf Fall Preview by six strokes over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Jack Sladek was the medalist by two strokes and both
Kip Childress and Tristan Frederick were in the top 10.
ETBU shot a 297 on day one to take the lead and kept their distance shooting two strokes better for a 295 on day two for a 592. UMHB shot a 306 and then a 292 finishing with a 598 while LeTourneau University came in third with a 604 (309-295). Fourth place was Hardin-Simmons (306-310=616), Concordia Texas (321-308=629) came in fifth while Howard Payne (328-318=648) was sixth and McMurry (329-328=657) finished in seventh.
Sladek finished one stroke ahead of UMHB's Luke Lohman as the medalist with a 143 (71-72). Childress followed in third with a 147 (75-72) while Frederick tied for seventh with a 151 (76-75).
Caleb Kesting followed in 13
th at 153 (75-78) as
Randall Searls tied for 25
th (79-80=159).
Truit Steen came in 38
th with a 165 (89-76) and
Nolan Steelman was 47
th (86-86=172). Colby Connor was then 53
rd at 185 (96-89).
ETBU has one more fall invitational at Dallas Baptist University on Oct. 23-24.
