MARSHALL, Texas —On senior night at Cornish Field, East Texas Baptist University couldn't find the net as they dropped their final home match of the year to the University of the Ozarks, 2-0. ETBU is now 1-8-5 overall and 0-6-1 in the American Southwest Conference.
The Tigers pressed hard the whole match and held most of the possession throughout. They led in shots, with 17 to the Eagles' 16 and had three shots on goal.
Brenden Gajewski and
Royce McConnell tied for the lead in shots with three each.
Matthew Dieb,
Jared Zuniga, and
Leonardo Esteban all had a shot on goal.
The first half was even between the two teams. It was fast paced and physical, with aggressive attacking from both sides that resulted in a lot of chances but no one could score. The first 45 min would end still tied at zero. The second half was similarly played, but it was the Eagles that found the net, first in the 64
th minute, then in the 83
rd. ETBU continued to apply pressure, but was unable to find the net as Ozarks took the match, 2-0.
A special thank you to the three seniors for ETBU on Senior Day went to
Matthew Dieb, Tristan Welchel, and
Garrett Garvin for their contributions to the team both on and off the pitch.
