BROWNWOOD, Texas – Finishing the 2023 season in dominating fashion, East Texas Baptist University shut out Howard Payne University, 3-0, for their third win of the season. It was their fourth shutout of the year as they finish 1-6-1 in the American Southwest Conference and 3-8-5 overall closing out the 2023 season on a two-match win streak.

Luke Hunsinger, Morales led the team in shots on goals with one each. Hunsinger and Morales both had two shots.
Bryan Carrillo added two saves in goal.

Lucas Arreguin recorded assists. ETBU took 10 shots with five on goal and held HPU to just six shots with three on goal.
HPU fired the first shot of the match in the sixth minute as one of their three shots on goal in the game as Carrillo collected the save (5:35). This struggle for control continued until an ETBU corner kick set up a shot attempt that was missed to left by
Jacob Wenzel at 16:49.
Luke Hansen attempted a shot at 18:19 but was blocked by the Yellow Jackets. Garvin then scored the first goal of the match in the 38
th minute set up by Flores. HPU had one shot attempt in the final five minutes of the game that went high as ETBU took a 1-0 lead at the half.
The Tigers played well offensively and defensively in the second half keeping up the pressure, while handling their opponents actions. Mijares attempted the first shot on goal of the half at 53:17 but it was stopped. Three minutes later, Palmieri netted an insurance goal on an assist from Dieb and Wenzel at 56:13 for the 2-0 lead. Carrillo made a save from 56:59 just seconds after ETBU had the two-goal lead. An ETBU goal kick set up a goal by Morales with an assist from Arreguin at 71:41 to make it 3-0. Hunsinger attempted a shot on goal at 79:37 that was saved by the Yellow Jackets goalkeeper as the final shot on goal in the match. HPU couldn't pressure ETBU in the final 10 minutes as the Tigers held onto the 3-0 win.
ETBU ends their 2023 season on a positive note winning their final two matches on the road.
