PREVIEW | WBB | ETBU Finishing Regular Season on the Road

MARSHALL, Texas – Looking to finish the regular season strong after a successful week at home, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team will be on the road for the final two regular season games at the University of the Ozarks and the University of Texas Dallas. ETBU finished 8-3 in Ornelas Gym this year winning their last four home games. On Wednesday, the regional rankings came out and ETBU was fourth.
 
ETBU is now 18-5 overall and 12-4 in the American Southwest Conference tied for second with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Last week, ETBU defeated Sul Ross 59-49, forcing two single-digit quarters while shooting 36% overall with four three-pointers. The Tigers went on to take down Howard Payne University, 74-49, again forcing two single-digit quarters, shooting 42% overall, 44% beyond the arc, and 73% on the line.
 
Leading the Tigers is Jade Goynes, Kenidi White, and Mollie Dittmar. Goynes is currently second in the ASC averaging 14.6 points per game and first in free throw percentage at 85.2%. Goynes had 14 points, eight rebounds, and three assists against Sul Ross, going 10-for-13 on the line. She then led the team with 15 points and nine rebounds against Howard Payne also recording two steals. This season, she is shooting 44% overall, 85.2% at the line, and averages 5.8 rebounds per game.
 
White currently leads the team with nine blocks this season, has 135 points, and 86 rebounds. Against Howard Payne, she recorded seven points and one steal. She moved on to be a double-digit leader, alongside Goynes, putting up 15 points, seven rebounds, and one block against Howard Payne. 
 
Dittmar is leading the Tigers with 147 rebounds averaging 6.4 per game. Dittmar lead the team in scoring against Sul Ross recording 15 points and had four rebounds. Against HPU, she recorded three points and three assists. This season, she is shooting 36.8% from the floor, 78.6% on the line, while averaging 5.9 points per game.
 
ETBU will be facing Ozarks on Thursday, February 16th at 5:30 pm. The two teams last saw each other in January, where the Tigers won, 79-39, in Marshall. Ozarks last came out on top in February 2016, 77-68. Ozarks is currently 8-15 overall and 5-11 in the ASC. Leading the Eagles is Amanda Turpin with 260 points averaging 11.3 per game. She has also recorded 101 rebounds averaging 4.4 per game and posted 21 blocks. 
 
ETBU will be at UT Dallas on Saturday, February 18th at 1:00 pm. The two teams last competed in January, with the Comets winning, 71-55. ETBU last came out victorious in January of 2021, 61-47. The Comets are currently 14-9 overall and sitting fourth in the ASC at 10-6. Leading UT Dallas is Diane Hurst. with 186 points averaging 8.1 per game. She is also shooting 44% overall and 87% on the line.
