KINGSVILLE, Texas – Playing four more matches on Friday and Saturday at Texas A&M-Kingsville, East Texas Baptist University earned two match points in their first-ever weekend of play. ETBU faced NCAA Division I Utah and Louisana Monroe, NAIA's Missouri Baptist University, and NCAA Division III Mary Hardin-Baylor in the classic.
ETBU earned their first-point in program history in a 4-1 loss to Missouri Baptist. Ashley Salas and Maddie McDonald won their match at number one, 21-18, 21-13, for the program's first set win. The other set win came against Mary Hardin-Baylor as Salas and McDonald won again at number one, 21-14, 20-22, 15-7.
The Tigers played competitively against all opponents to open up the 2023 season for the brand-new program.
ETBU will next pay on March 9 in Belton, Texas, against Oklahoma Wesleyan.
