PREVIEW | WBB | ETBU Back at Home vs. LETU on Saturday

MARSHALL, Texas - After a successful weekend in Central Texas, the East Texas Baptist University women's basketball team will be back at home in Ornelas Gym for one game this week facing LeTourneau University. The game will take place on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. 
 
ETBU is now 15-5 overall and 9-4 in the American Southwest Conference, sitting in fourth place. After making a large comeback in the second half, the Tigers defeated then #22 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 67-61, shooting 38% overall and 43% beyond the arc. They followed by earning another win against Concordia University Texas, 78-56, shooting 48% on the floor and 33% for 3-pointers. 
 
Leading the Tigers is Jade Goynes, Bridget Upton, and Mollie Dittmar. Goynes was named the ASC Player of the Week this week after averaging a double-double last week in wins over UMHB and CTX. She is second in the ASC in field goal percentage of 44%, second in free throw shooting at 83%, and third in points per game at 14.6. She led the team in both games last week scoring 18 points against UMHB and making it a double-double with 11 rebounds. She continued against CTX with a career high 25 points and 11 rebounds. In that game, she shot 47% on the floor and 88% on the line. She is also averaging 5.4 rebounds per game. 
 
Upton is currently leading the team with 248 season points averaging 12.4 per game and shooting 47%. Against UMHB, she recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, a personal season high, and led the team with two steals. She continued recording 17 points and five rebounds against CTX, shooting 67% from the floor. She is ranked sixth in the ASC averaging 12.4 points per game.
 
Dittmar led the team against UMHB with 13 rebounds, a personal and team season high, and made it a double-double with 11 points, shooting 56% from the floor. Against CTX, she shot 57% overall, with nine points and seven rebounds. She currently sits seventh in the ASC averaging 6.8 rebounds per game. She leads the team with 135 rebounds and with 49 free-throws.
 
LeTourneau holds a 6-14 overall record and is 2-11 in the ASC. The teams last played in December, with ETBU winning, 75-51. LETU last defeated the Tigers in February 2017, 75-63. Leading the Yellowjackets is AJ Thomas with 195 points, averaging 10.3 per game and is shooting 39% overall. She also leads the team with 33 season steals. Thomas has recorded 85 assists this season, averaging 4.5 per game.
