MARSHALL, Texas – Playing two duals against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in their final home meeting of 2023 for beach volleyball, East Texas Baptist University split with the Crusaders. ETBU fell in the first dual, 3-2, but bounced back and won the second dual, 3-2. ETBU has now won five of their last seven duals they have played and earned their first win over UMHB.

ETBU started off with a 2-0 lead winning the matches number four and five.
Riley Tuck and
Shelby Freudensprung won at number five in three sets, 17-21, 24-22, 15-11, for the first point.
Libby Gear and
Nadia Brockway then took the number four match in straight sets, 22-20, 21-18.
After falling at number three, 21-17, 21-17, and number two matches, 21-14, 21-19. It came down to the number one match. Ashley Salas and
Madison McDonald fell in set one, 21-15, but then won set two, 21-18. Set three went to UMHB, 15-10, as UMHB won the dual.

Splitting the number four and five matches, it came down to the top three matches for the dual. UMHB won the number five match in three sets, 19-21, 21-19, 15-5. Gear and Brockway earned their second win on the day at number four with a 21-15, 21-17 victory to even the score at 1-1. UMHB then took the number three match in three sets, 21-18, 10-21, 21-19 to go up, 2-1. Salas and McDonald tied the match at two points each after winning the number one match, 21-18, 21-18. It came down to the number two match as
Riley Reneau and Annnika Demuth held off UMHB, 22-20, 21-15 to win the match.
ETBU will head to Georgia this weekend for duals at Berry College against Huntingdon, Stevenson, and Lynchburg.
