MARSHALL, Texas – Finishing off McMurry University with a complete three-game sweep and the third shutout of the series, #12 East Texas Baptist University had a great day at the dedication of Jason Bell Park at Taylor Field, 9-0, in a five-inning run-rule game. ETBU is now 21-4 overall and 8-4 in the American Southwest Conference moving to 18-0 at home.
It was a strong offensive day with 13 hits scoring nine runs with a home run and five doubles.
Tristen Maddox was 3-of-4 on the day with three RBI and a home run to lead the Tigers.
Delanie Loya,
Jalen Perez, and
Mary Frances Ellis all had two hits.
Ashley Croft added two RBI while
Courtney White, Loya,
Tauryn Cummings, and
Sydney Green had one RBI.
Toni Tamborello went five innings recording one strikeout and had a no-hitter through three innings. She only allowed two hits in the shutout win as she retired the side in the second, third, and fifth innings.
ETBU scored five runs in the first two innings of the game to take control. Loya doubled in White for the 1-0 lead. She then came in on a Cummings double to go up 2-0 after the first inning. White earned a RBI in the second inning a bases loaded hit by a pitch making it 3-0. Croft followed with a two-out single for two RBI as both Maddox and Ellis scored making it 5-0.
In the fourth inning, Maddox doubled in Ellis pushing the lead to six runs. Needing just two runs to run-rule the game, Green grounded out as
Mallory Pyle scored for a 7-0 lead with two outs. Maddox stepped up and then ended the game with her seventh home run of the year for the 9-0 win.
ETBU will host LeTourneau University next week on Thursday and Friday.
