MARSHALL, Texas – Finishing as the American Southwest Conference East Division regular season runner up, the East Texas Baptist University women's tennis team is competing in the 2023 American Southwest Conference championship in Abilene. ETBU will be the no. 2 seed from the East Division as the tournament is hosted by West Division winner Hardin-Simmons University at the Streich Tennis Complex.
 
ETBU will have to face Mary Hardin-Baylor who finished third in the West Division. The two teams saw each other back on March 4 as ETBU won, 6-3, in Marshall. ETBU took a 2-1 lead in doubles and then won the one, two, five, and six matches for the six points.
 
In six of the last seven seasons, ETBU has been the no. 2 seed from the East Division in the ASC Tournament winning the division in 2019. Last year, they fell in the first round to McMurry, 5-2. The Tigers have a rich history in the post season winning the tournament in 2017 and were runners-up in 2016 and 2019.
 
This year, ETBU is 12-6 and went 3-1 in the ASC East. They will start their run to an ASC Championship on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. vs. the Crusaders in Abilene.
