ABILENE, Texas – In the first round of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, East Texas Baptist University fell to Mary Hardin-Baylor, 5-2. ETBU ends their season at 12-7.
UMHB took two close double matches for a 2-1 lead.
Addy Seward and
Fernanda Ruiz Burkart started with an 8-3 win at no. 1.
Jayde Childress and
Grayce Malone then fell in a close, 8-6, match at no. 2.
Shyan Darr and Isabell Duarte came up short at no. 3, 8-5.
The Crusaders went up, 3-1, starting singles play after Abbey Faggard won over
Andrea Alvarez, 6-0, 6-0. Childress then cut the lead back to one, 3-2, winning the no. 2 match, 6-0, 6-3.
Maryam Sharafeldin fell at no. 3, 6-2, 6-1, as UMH had four points. Seward then lost the no. 1 match, 4-6, 1-6, as UMHB took the match, 5-2.
ETBU was the no. 2 seed from the East Division and won 12 matches this year.
